Background

It originally started as a theme for my Tumblr site flingLog . When I decided to use Tumblr for Mobile Design and Six Sites, I didn’t want to add two more code bases to manage as well. So one morning while jetlagged in a London hotel I created a base Tumblr theme that I could easily brand for multiple sites. I call it Ringr because even though Tumblr themes are pretty simple, I’m lazy to use a shortcut anyway.

Instructions

The recipe to get up and running is pretty simple.

  • Take your Tumblr markup (ringr_template.html), customize where indicated by the comments. You should get a Google Analytics and Feedburner account.
  • Create a brand stylesheet of your own. I’ve included my stylesheet for flingLog so you can see what I’m doing. I find it easier to do all my stylesheet work live on the server so I can see it on actual content. But I will leave that up to you.
  • Copy all of your assets to a public web server somewhere (I recommend Dream Host, they are super cheap and give you a lot of flexibility for simple sites. Signing up with this link will give me a little kick back)
  • Cut and paste the HTML from the template to the Custom HTML option within Tumblr and Save.
  • Customize your styles and images to suit.

Support

I’ll try to provide as much support as I can, but I don’t have the time to teach you basic HTML.
